Soprano Heidi Middendorf is an expressive and compelling vocalist celebrated for their radiant upper register, richly colored timbre, and commanding stage presence. Acclaimed for both vocal virtuosity and interpretive depth, Heidi is the first-prize winner of the prestigious Corbett Competition at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (2021). Their professional debut as Frasquita in Carmen with Central City Opera drew critical praise, with Opera News lauding the performance as “flawless.” Heidi holds a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory and three graduate degrees from the University of Cincinnati-CCM. Heidi’s operatic repertoire spans iconic and demanding roles, including Donna Anna (DonGiovanni), La Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro), Cunegonde (Candide), La Fée (Cendrillon), and the Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), showcasing their exceptional vocal agility and dramatic depth. They have performed with prominent organizations such as Cincinnati Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Washington Opera Society, Central City Opera, and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. Recent appearances include Countess Ceprano in Cincinnati Opera’s Rigoletto. Equally at home on the recital stage, Heidi is a passionate interpreter of art song, often curating programs that spotlight 20th-century repertoire and explore the intersections of music, ideology, and identity. Their scholarly work in Feminist Musicology invigorates the field with new feminist operatic performance practices.
